You should go buy an actual multimeter. They come in handy for any electrical project, not bike exclusive. It is worth the investment. I have a couple & use them all the time. This is the one I carry in my bag everywhere I go:

Using a multimeter, you can trace the flow of current from the battery to any place in the bike's electrical system. Looking in the manual to show the location of components, work through the bike and determine whether there is current flowing from place to place.
If there is a short in your system, this is the way to find it. Example: Battery>Fuse Box. Fuse Box>R/R. R/R>Stator, etc. May take some time, but you learn pretty quick what is going on.
