Default Stator or R/R Issue (need help)

I replaced my battery thinking it was just a dead battery, quickly realized that wasn't the issue after riding it for a bit. Im torn between replacing the stator or the R/R. Im not realyl sure which one it is.

I tested the stator by unplugging the female end of hte connector coming out of the stator, and checking it's AC Voltage. At 5000 RPM, I was getting about 61-65 VAC throughout the 3 different wires. Anything below 60 VAC they say to replace the stator.

I tried a diode test on the Regulator but for some reason it wasn't' working well. Some tests showed it was ok, and others showed it as failing.

The evidence tells me that it's likely the R/R, but my hunch almost thinks it's the stator. Is it not true that if the R/R was the culprit, wouldn't' you be OVERCHARGING your battery? IE with my multi-meter to the battery, shouldn't I be getting WAY over the 14.4v? I only get 12.x V, meaning it's not charging. But I thought if it was the R/R I would be getting too much voltage back to the battery.

Yet when I tested the stator, it seemed to be ok :S

Thoughts / Suggestions? I'd rather not throw money at R/R to find out it was the stator, and vise versa.

Also the problem is NOT the common "burnt plug" going into the R/R. That was the first thing I looked at, and the plug looks completely fine. Not signs of any extra heat there at all.
