There are a ton of places over there.....I like staying at the Punkin Center Motorcycle resort when I don't stay in Knoxville with a bud. It's literally 10 miles from the gap but on the TN side. Jody and his wife are super cool and are fun to just hang out with in the evenings. But, since you want to stay in NC....that prolly isn't the answer you wanted
