I agree. Why let the dealer do anything to your bike that is not absolutely necessary and you cannot do yourself. On the other hand, pretty much all of us can check our filters to make sure nothing is awry, then waitr unitl you need a filter change and bring it in. Nothing like a free filter to save a few bucks.
