'06 R6 Air Filter Recall
For anyone who has a 2006 R6, you may hear soon from Yamaha regarding a faulty Air Filter Element. It is said that it is possible for the screws to come loose and fall into the throttle body.
Here is part of the notice from Yamaha:
Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in all 2006 YZF-R6V, VC, SPV, and SPVC (“R6”) model motorcycles. In affected motorcycles, the air filter mounting screws may come loose and fall out. If they do, they could get caught in the throttle valve which could prevent the operator from reducing engine speed properly.
To correct this defect, Yamaha is initiating a Factory Modification Campaign. Affected motorcycles must have the air filter element replaced with a new one that is designed to hold the screws securely. Yamaha will notify all registered owners of unmodified affected motorcycles by mail, and will send a Technical Bulletin to authorized Yamaha Motorcycle dealers with the necessary modification information.
Motorcycles that are affected should not be operated until they are modified. It is a violation of Yamaha policy for a dealership to deliver any affected motorcycles to customers until the procedures in the recall bulletin are performed.
