Post HOWTO: Installing WatsenDesign flushed front led signals on R6 06

Another day... another mod... another post
I just installed the Watsen Design front led lights and I LOVE THEM. I decided to document my work and post it here, in case someone is considering wasting a lot of money letting the shop do the work ;)

As someone who never took the ferrings off an R6 before (Hondas are completely different), I found the disassembly to be different enough to warrant a detailed description. If you know the drill, feel free to skip it all the way to the electrical connections

Also, I documented one side (right) only, but it is similar enough that all you need to do is follow the same directions to replace the left side turn light as well.

Pic1: the package

Step 1: Taking the ferring off
Start by taking out the bolts holding the top ferring pic 2 (using the key from the tool kit).
Undo the rivet, by pressing the center in and then popping it out (pic 3, 4).
Take the top ferring off by sliding it up and right (pic 5)

Next, it's time to take the side/ bottom ferring off:
Looking under the bike (inside right side) you will find another rivet(s). Undo them in the same manner as before (pic 6, 7).
Slide the ferring joint (bottom front of bike) out by popping the little pin holding it from underneath (pic 8).
Take out the rivet screw. This is a tricky and annoying one. I needed to push on it from the inside while unscrewing it (pic 9).
Now the ferrings is off and the only thing holding it in place is the front light wire (pic 10).
Un-do the connector (pic 11)

Mounting the LED lights:
You have right and left lights in the package. They don’t come marked left and right, so the easiest way is to put them each in the ferring and seeing which one sits perfectly and flushed (believe me, you will see the difference if you put the wrong one in )
First step: take out the rubber insert from the ferring. You will need to push the inside sides in using a screw driver and wiggle it out (pic 12, 13).
Next: Cut the turn signals connector, so you can use it to connect the LED signals. Cut the wires closer to the turn signals lights so you are left with enough wires (pic 14).
Plug the cut piece to the turn signal on the bike and verify the wires you need to work with. The black cable will need to connect to the black wire on the LED turn signals, the blue is left alone (*) and the last cable is connected to the white wire on the LED turn signals (pic 15)
(*) the blue wire is for running lights which the LED lights don’t support.
Plug the resistors provided. They are connected in parallel and on the negative side (the black wire) (pic 16, 17, 18, 19)
Put the LED light in place with the provided HW.
Verify that the lights work by connecting the wires and turning on the bike turn signals. If you missed the connections, you want to know about it sooner than later ;)
Once you verified that wrap the connections and resistor with electric tape to prevent water getting in.
Using a zip-tight, position the resistor, such that it doesn’t touch the ferring as those can get pretty hot (pic 20, 21).

Putting the ferrings back:
If you’re as anal as I am, you have the screws numbered or at least positioned in a way that you know which one went where
If not, follow the above directions in reversed order and make sure you are not left with any spare parts ;)

Once you are done with this side. Start again on the other side

This is how the bike looked like when I was done (pic ‘final’)
