Spring 2008 Alpinestars Group Buy |
|
Mar 08, 2008 - 11:44 AM - by Big Deezul

Hey Folks,
It's time to fire up another Alpinestars Group Buy. For 2008, Alpinestars has increased their import line considerably, which means a lot more jackets to choose from, on top of leathers, gloves, boots, pants, and protective gear.
Look at http://www.alpinestars.com for ideas, but note that not all items are sold in the US market. The special includes leathers, jackets (leather and textile), boots, gloves, riding pants, and armor gear.
Send Big Deezul a PM with the items you would like a price on (he will send out prices once each evening). Once you have the PM with your price you can order at http://www.calsportbike.com/order, and ordering will close on 3/31 at close of business day.
Shipping Approximates
Full suits is about 14 lbs. NY or FL is about $17, midwest
is about $15, Rocky Mtn and west coast is about $13.
Boots are about 8 lbs. $15 to east coast, $13 to midwest,
Rocky Mtn and west coast is about $11.
Gloves are 1-2 lbs, about $12 to east, $11 to midwest,
or $10 to Rocky Mtn and west coast.
Obviously if you combine, it's cheaper. Full suit with gloves is still only about $18 to NY, for example.
On specials, there are no returns or exchanges. Please be sure of your sizing. We'd rather have you NOT purchase than be stuck with something that doesn't fit well. For sizing help, look here: [Read More]

Three Yamaha riders topping the time sheets in Sepang |
|
Jan 28, 2008 - 11:51 PM - by Big Deezul

Another scorching day in Sepang saw the Yamaha riders putting in some fast laps on the new 2008 YZR-M1 today, on the second day of the opening test of the year. Proving that Edwards, Rossi and Lorenzo were harbouring no ill-effects from yesterday’s falls, three out of four Yamaha riders topped the time sheets. Rossi was a second faster than yesterday and over half a second under lap record pace, setting the third fastest time of the day on a race tyre as his team-mate Jorge Lorenzo was just behind him with a time of 2’01.583. Yamaha Tech 3 rider Colin Edwards was just ahead of both Fiat Yamaha riders in second place in a time of 2.01.327. For the second consecutive day Randy de Puniet topped the time sheets.
Rossi once again worked on the pneumatic-valve engine and on the new electronics, as well as concentrating on tyre testing with Bridgestone as he and his crew continue their learning curve with their new tyre manufacturer. Rossi completed 60 laps and his best lap of the day, a time of 2’01.437, was set just before five pm.
Valentino Rossi - Position: 3rd Time: 2’01.437 Laps: 60
“Today we continued to work on bike set-up in the same way as yesterday and on the new engine, the electronics and the tyres. We continued with the pneumatic-valve engine as it’s important to get as much mileage as possible behind us with this engine to check the performance, the reliability and just to gain experience with it. With the electronics we worked a lot on the acceleration mapping and I’m quite happy with this. Although it doesn’t make us any faster, it helps me to be more comfortable on the bike.... [Read More]

2008 Yamaha R6 - First Ride
Yamaha’s YZF-R6 has been a major player in the middleweight sportbike wars ever since it debuted in 1999. Combining light weight with razor-sharp handling and a wailing top-end punch, Yammie’s 600cc screamer has been a potent tool that perennially competes for top honors in its class.
Then in 2006, the R6 received a ground-up overhaul that resulted in a package that many judged to be the tastiest eye-candy in the segment. That (plus an optimistic 17,500-rpm tachometer) garnered plenty of attention among consumers and the media alike. This flash and controversy somewhat overshadowed a stellar chassis and the bike’s less-streetable character from its racy ergos and the engine’s top-heavy powerband.
So in this mid-cycle revision for ’08, the tweaked R6 has a bolstered midrange punch and even better handling dynamics in the face of new-for-2007 challengers from Honda and Kawasaki, plus a revised GSX-R600 from Suzuki for ’08. Yamaha invited Motorcycle.com to the hills and twists of Laguna Seca near Monterey, California, so we could gleefully sample the latest iteration of this sportbike sales success: R6 sales are up 44% since 2001.

2007 Tokyo Motor Show |
|

Considering that Tokyo’s yearly motorcycle show is the home field for four of the biggest OEMs, it's no surprise that it’s the scene for some wild new concepts – it's all a part of the competitive one-upsmanship typical of the Japanese corporate culture.
For this year's show, Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha all had new concepts to wow the crowd, with machines ranging from futuristic engineering exercises (built as an excuse for each manufacturer to show their superior technological capabilities) to prototypes that look ready to roll off the production line and onto the street any day now. And make sure you also take a look at the accompanying photo gallery for more pics of these cool bikes.
Yamaha has taken the retro path as well, though not quite as sportily as Honda. The first of their concepts is called the Sakura, and it's a beautiful upright-style 'standard' powered by an extremely retro-looking 1000cc V-Twin. The cylinder heads have a classic shape that reminds me of older British machines, and the dual rear shocks, tubular steel frame, and wire-spoke wheels continue the theme. Yamaha claims the machine is lightweight and easy to handle, with a low seat height - which makes sense, as retro models like these are probably popular among those getting back in motorcycling after a long absence, and the Sakura should have a nice, torquey powerband matched with conservative handling, perfect for a relaxed ride through the countryside.
